Breathwork, is it real and why?

Breathwork, is it real and why?

Lets get straight to the juicy nerdy part (the science!).

Does Breathwork work? Yes
Is it backed up by science? Yes

Lets go!

A lot has to do with the effect of oxygen and CO2 (carbon oxide) on the nervous systems and cell membranes.See, the less CO2 in the body (which get removed from the body when we breath out) the lower our pH-levels gets > the lower (more acidic) the pH levels get the stiffer the cell membranes get > No oxygen is getting into the cells. This is what happens in the famous breathing technique of CCB (conscious connective breathwork).

Meanwhile > The longer (and calmer) breaths we take the more it will calm down the nervous system and relaxes blood vessels to open up > more oxygen is then released from the blood cells into the tissue and organs. This also calms down the kidneys and release of the stress hormone cortisol.

It is also by now sending more oxygen up to the brain > making the brain feel safe and sound > telling our nervous systems and inner organs that we are doing all okey.

Opposite effects happens when we shallow breath with our chest and taking shorter breaths (as in the state of stress or panic) > less oxygen is being sent to the brain meaning the brain sends signals all around the body that we are danger and need to focus on running away. Makes sense right?
